Return to face to face meetings

by | Nov 19, 2021

Returning to face to face meetings for Neath Port Talbot Stroke Group has been a big learning curve for us all.

We gently eased our way back in with strict new Covid measures. All attendees must have proof of double vaccinations either via the NHS app, a covid pass letter or a vaccination card. All attendees must bring with them a negative Later Flow Test that they have done that morning. Masks, visors, bandanas or face coverings must be worn when entering the venue and moving around (regardless of exemption). They must sanitise upon and entry and frequently throughout the session. They will be forehead temperature checked on entry. Name and contact details are required for track and trace.

We were all incredibly nervous for the first few weeks, for many of us it was the first time we have been around a lot of people in such a long time. Nerves were palpable in the room for the first few weeks.

By the third and fourth face to face meeting we all started relaxing. We got used to our new venue and the new measures that have been put in place. Over the weeks our meetings became more enjoyable as we started to have more hands on activities.

We have many differences from what group meetings were like in 2020. The main difference is a new venue which we are settling into well. There is a one way system in place to help us avoid walking into each other. There are sanitising stations at the entrance, on all tables and in the toilets. Biscuits are pre-packed to avoid cross contamination. We now serve teas and coffees in disposable cups, that are disposed of after every use. We now have a drinks menu where everyone can choose from cappucinos, lattes, hot chocolate, fruit or regular tea.

We have many new attendees who are all settling in and making new friends. We now feel ready to advertise that our group has returned to face to face meetings. Our main aim is to support local stroke survivors after they have been discharged from hospital and are now back in the community. We know how isolating a stroke can be especially during this awful Covid period. If you or someone you know has suffered from a stroke and want to join a lively social group and make new friends. Give us a ring 0333-358-0344 or join us at Briton Ferry Community Hall on Wednesdays 10am to 12pm. Don’t forget you must have proof of 2 vaccinations bring a negative Lateral Flow Test that you have done that morning and wear a mask (regardless of exemption). Please do not attend if you have a cold, covid symptoms sickness or diarrhea. Have a week or 2 off and come back when you are feeling better. Keep your germs to yourself LOL
