WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES !
Graham & I have been married for 52 yrs. We have had an interesting & active life.
I have been a member of several organisations and enjoyed many hobbies. Graham has always been athletic and ran many marathons till a knee injury stopped him. He became a hill walker and enjoyed being a Duke of Edinburgh Assessor. His daily routine was up at 6 am, shave, dress and out on his bike by 6-30. Everything changed on May last year
when as he was dressing to go cycling he collapsed with an acute stroke. Thankfully he eventually came through it after spending 4 weeks in hospital. At first he couldn’t talk, walk, or eat but gradually through great effort and determination he improved. Unfortunately it has left him with Aphasia and has affected his communication skills. We have had to adapt our lives and I feel we have changed roles as Graham was always the strong one but now I feel responsible for him. It’s not always easy as sometimes I have to guess what he means but I admire his perseverance and determination to get better. I felt a little lost and vulnerable at first and thanks to Suzanne we eventually came along to the group .We are so grateful to the group which has given us both the confidence knowing there is help and support available. Graham supported me through my Cancer so now it’s my turn to be there for him. Slowly with the help of the Stroke Group and Amanda’s communication class we can now look forward to the future. I would recommend any one who has had a stroke to join because it’s the best move we made. We look forward to coming every week and find it great
