Hi, I am David; I survived a stroke in Nov 2021, which affected my motor coordination. Here my life changed forever. With my son’s quick thinking, I was taken to hospital in the early hours of the morning where I received immediate care and attention. My journey to recovery started here; I received support (Rehab) from the Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in both Morriston General Hospital and Neath Port Talbot Hospital.
Upon discharge, I received on-going therapy at home to improve my mobility and core strength from the Stroke ESD team who stayed with me for approx. 3 weeks.
In November 2022, my daughter, who is an Occupational Therapist, informed me about ‘World Stroke Day’ in Briton Ferry Community Centre and provided me with all the contacts to attend. My best mate, Carer (Wife) came with me and we were very intrigued about what services were available to us. From here, we were invited to attend the Wednesday stroke group, and we are so glad we went along.
We have never felt so welcomed and part of a group. We have received so much support and time from the trustees / Volunteers and fellow stroke survivors. The time and dedication attributed to the activities carried out are so thoughtful. Since being part of this community I have had the opportunity to attend many excursions including Luminate, in Margam, The Senedd, Techniquest and many meals out. Both my wife and I really enjoy attending the stroke group and meeting people, making new friends and sharing breakfast with them. We really appreciate the time and dedication provided by the Trustees and volunteers and the effort that goes into organising all the activities and really feel part of an amazing organisation.
